A Man For All Seasons

A lady by the name of Sonora Dodd was attending a Mother's Day service at the local church when she wondered why there wasn't a 'Father's Day'.  Many father's were bringing up children on their own, indeed her own father had raised six after his wife passed away.  So the following year she arranged a celebration for her own father on June 19th.  Father's Day was born.  The idea of  Father's Day didn't initially catch on, it was regarded by many as just a commercial enterprise, a gimmick.  But the idea stuck.  It remained an unrecognised day until in 1972 President Nixon made it an official day of celebration, and it is now celebrated all over the world.
