CLAY SHOOTING
8th June 2010

Many people believe that you shouldn't shoot game and clay, as it can spoil your shooting for either, but we here at KWG believe that any use of the gun will either improve or maintain your shooting.

Good shooting depends on a good gun mount.  A good gun mount is derived from muscle memory.  Muscle memory can only be gained by practice.  Dry practice at home for five minutes a day can definitely help improve your shooting, but the only live way to do it is by putting lead in the air.  There are many clay shoots up and down the country which anyone can attend at any time.  Most clubs shoot on a Sunday and are an informal affair.  There are many formal shooting grounds that shoot mid week and would be more than happy to arrange birds to either challenge or ease you back into the right mindset.  If you have a 'bogey bird', why not discuss this with a member of the ground staff at the clay ground and book a lesson.  Apart from gun, vest, hearing and eye protection, very little equipment is needed.

To find out more about your nearest clay ground and shooting clubs in the South East please feel free to call either our Ashford branch on 01233 637717 or Handcross on 01444 400104.  Alternatively check out the CPSA (Clay Pigeon Shooting Association) web site.

Don't forget to arrange to have your gun serviced before the start of the shooting season.  Gunsmiths are quieter at this time of year and a gun can be turned around on average, in 10 days, as opposed to just before the start of the season where it can be extended to 4 weeks.
